Billy Turner bio

Billy (Bill) Turner – Vice President & CFO – is the newest member of the Wayne Turner Financial Group.  He joins us after a 37-year career with General Motors, where he held management positions for a number of years.

Bill’s main objective with our group will be to help all of our clients and future customers to achieve financial security.  For the most part, many of us are totally in the dark about our finances.  You try to pay your bills each month and try to do your best to prepare for the future.  But, the truth is, there is only so much money to go around and preparing for the future can be overwhelming.

This is where Bill will assist you.  He provides financial consulting services by offering to each of our clients a Financial Needs Analysis (FNA).  This analysis is a written document, which brings your current financial situation to light.  It shows you a true view of where you stand today financially and what you will need to do prepare for tomorrow.

With the completed Financial Needs Analysis, Bill will offer financial counseling to help in the following areas:

  • Debt Management – All of our clients can receive the help they need to achieve financial freedom.  They will be given a written plan outlining the strategies they can use for paying off their current debt in the quickest and most efficient manner.

  • Retirement Income – You will receive a detailed analysis of how much money you will need to prepare for your retirement; as well as receiving several options and programs to help you achieve your retirement goals.

  • Education Funding – Exactly how will you pay for your children’s future college education?  The Financial Needs Analysis can project the actual costs for specific schools you children may attend, and then present you with several strategies that you may need to fund your children’s education.

  • Income Protection – Do you have the basics for protecting the very foundation of your financial house?  What happens in the event of your premature death or that of your spouse, or even a prolonged illness?  Bill can offer you several strategies to ensure your financial future.

  • Building Your Financial Future – Combining all of this information along with the many strategies offered by the Financial Needs analysis, Bill will present to you a financial plan of action to achieve your current and future financial goals.

How can you accomplish all of these things?  Good financial counseling; proper life, health, vehicle, and home insurance plans; retirement programs, 401Ks, Roth’s, annuities, securities and investments; and your home mortgages.  Bill can help in all of these areas.

PROFESSIONAL BACKGROUND

Bill began his career with General Motors in 1972 when he entered General Motors Institute (GMI) to become an engineer.  His claim to fame was working with the Vehicle Identification Numbers (VIN) that is on every vehicle.  At the time, Chrysler wanted a nine character VIN, Ford wanted a 12 character VIN, and GM in the US wanted a 13 character VIN.  Bill pushed for a 17 character VIN for his overseas units and was successful.  Thanks to him, every vehicle today has a 17 character VIN.

He later moved to several other engineering departments.  He next headed a group that gave engineering names to all the parts in GM cars.  This sounds strange because all of the parts already had a name, but, when you had four different vehicles running down the same assembly line using different named parts, hood, bonnet, deck lid, etc. you can imagine the confusions and extra cost associated with it.  This saved the corporation millions in not having to stock the same part with four and five different names.  His uniformly named all of the parts in the Corvette, Silverado pickup truck, and the old Buick Roadmaster.

After that, Bill served as Office Manager, Business Manager, or Operations Manager of several departments with the GM Engineering organization, where he managed the budgets of five major engineering groups to the tune of $276 million.  He coordinated the computer activities for over 500 employees that included purchasing hardware, software, servers, routers, and backbones.  He coordinated and maintained the computer budgets for each of these activities.  He was Webmaster for several GM Websites.  He wrote computer programs that saved the corporation over $5 million.

Bill later moved to the Information Technology (Computers) side of General Motors where he held positions as Cell Phone Manager, Compliance Manager, and Business Continuity Manager.  During this period, he developed and maintained the budgets of several departments resulting in yearly savings in each.  He headed a team that save $20 million from the IT budgets for all of the GM engineering departments in only a three-month period.  His last stint before he retired was the management of over 600 engineering computer applications used worldwide and where he assured their running and recovery in the event of a disaster.

During his stay at GM, he received his Bachelors of Business Administration Degree in Management from Northwood University where he graduated Magna Cum Laude.  He recently received his Masters of Science in Information Technology (MSIT) degree when he graduated with Distinctions in 2008. In July 2009, he received his state certification specializing in insurance, debt management, and financial consultation, and presently he is working to receive his specialty certification for financial securities in the next few months.
